Correct 65 San Jose fuel filler hose?
« on: March 14, 2011, 12:31:51 AM »
Which filler hose is correct for a late (June) '65 San Jose car?

I find cloth wrap, textured rubber, and red-stripe variants. It's been 25+ years ago, but I seem to recall pulling a degraded cloth wrap hose off this car (of course, it could have been an earlier replacement).

This is a little later SJ car, but you might study the pics from the eBay listing in this thread;

One photo shows the fuel filler hose, including the white stripe.

That's a '66, unfortunately...

Textured with a faint white stripe is most typical.

Sorry to revive an old topic but two questions, would the white stripe be on an Oct 64 SJ car and two, what is the correct length of the hose?  The one from NPD is 4 inches but the current cloth one on the car is 3 inches.  Does it need to be trimmed down?

Yes I would still look for one that had the alligator texture with the stripes.

Don't have a 65 around at the moment to measure

Was at my friend's shop today and forgot he had one of these lying around to remind people to change out their hoses after 50 years. I don't what plant it came out of but clearly has a white stripe

Just happened to go out tonight to go through some boxes of parts. Here is what I found

Two originals from 65-66 San Jose cars both the stripe(s)  both measured about 3 1/4"

Had one NOS C4GY filler hose (with out a strong or visible white stripe but still the expected texture to the surface) also measuring about 3  1/4"

I invite others with originals to measure theirs

FYI sometimes you can find a longer length of correct diameter hose with the desired texture at swap meets etc. I typically buy any I come across because you can cut numerous Mustang filler hose from them . Adding a white stripe is a relative easy for added authenticity. You used to be able to go to the auto parts store and choose from long lengths of hose with maybe a un needed bend meant for another applications . The textured hose was available at various auto parts stores long after it stopped showing up at Ford dealers.There might be some still out there unsold still hanging up at your local autoparts store. Less likely at major stores but more likely maybe at older private owned stores. At least it might be worth a look.
