1965 fuel pump canister question
« on: October 20, 2009, 06:57:36 PM »
I recently installed a new fuel pump, then kind with the "screw on" canister for the filter cartridge.  For the life of me, I can not unscrew that canister to see if it comes new with the filter installed.  I have even used an oil filter type strap  "wrench" but no luck.  It must have used a spanner typy wrench that engages the three indentataions on the bottom of the canister to unscrew.  Can anyone tell me if that type of pump would have the filter included?  How do you unscrew that thing?

help would be appreciated.

i have had trouble with those too. i usually use a strap wrench. if yours is the type without the double ribs at the bottom it is not the correct one. i have seen the pumps come both ways and i always like to verify what is inside.
