68 dash pad color with standard ivy gold interior ??
« on: May 26, 2012, 03:57:41 PM »
I'm restoring a 68 1/2 coupe with ivy gold interior, Is the dash pad black or dark green ?
I believe it should be dark green, but not sure. Is so does any one have the color code or name of the paint,
or where to buy it ?
Thanks
Arild

I believe the dash pad was black. They were molded vinyl not painted. When most are restored a vinyl dye is used to freshen the color. NPD offers it as does most auto body supply stores. If you can find a good original even if you have to dye it they are way better than the reproduction. Good luck Marty

I've seen molded dark green dash pads, so think this is something that is not absolute.

Thanks Charles I was not certain. I  thought on some interiors it could go either way. Or was this a situation where if a green pad was not available it was OK to substitute the black? Is there a resource that lists the color of the various interior pieces? I recall a question asked in a 68 two tone blue interior was the carpet dark blue or medium blue. It would be nice to know for certain on this stuff and not rely on what we have seen.Marty

I have only seen green dash pads in 1967 models but never in a 68. I would say it came with either black or dark brown like my 68 nugget gold interior. Your dash pad trim should be the same color as the dash pad, you can remove the trim and look on the underside to see for sure.

Thanks for the responses, unfortureately the original dash pad and trim were missing.
So I guess my next question would be if I install a black dash pad would there be a deduction in judging ?

Don't think it would be a deduction for a black pad.  But, would recommend to keep an eye out for other '68's with the same color interior, preferably some original cars.

I do not know if it applies to your 68, but my unrestored 67 Built in April 67 in San Jose with standard ivy gold interior has a black dash pad.

Mine is an early 68 , NJ build and the dash pad is dark green.  Do not have the color code.

Scottn63,
Would it be possible to get a few pictures of the dash pad and trim, if you could send to my e-mail arild@shaw.ca,  I would really appreciate it.
This is a real nice numbers matching car and I want to do it right.
Thanks
Arild

Out of curiosity, do you have the original metal moldings that go between the dash pad and windshield?  If so, what color are they?

My late '68 Dearborn X code had Ivy Gold interior, very dark green dash pad and black trim/molding pieces between dash pad and glass.  Believe they are original, but can't be sure...
