Accelerator Linkage finish

The MCA website states that the accelerator linkage for 1968 is suppose to be "Natural" but I've also heard it should be phosphate. I painted mine with the natural looking paint. Is this acceptable?? What is correct?

Natural is just a reference, but the part should be phosphate/oil.
