Title: Ball stud free play
Post by: 67gta289 on January 18, 2017, 07:07:47 PM
I've got the rebuilt gear box assembly in the vehicle   As I test the system by hand I observe no free play in the steering box. However there is about 1/8" of linear play in the ball stud which equates to approximately 5 degrees in the steering wheel.  I think that is a little excessive.  The shop manual lists a "control valve spoil travel (from center)" at "0.060 approx.".   When I rebuilt the control valve there was a specification that I followed but I can't find it after looking for about 20 minutes.   So two questions (1) what should I shoot for in travel and (2) is the adjustment simply in the centering spring which would appear quite easy to do.  With my luck it is usually not the easy solution 😬
