Title: 1970 power brake booster
Post by: 266ks on April 19, 2014, 03:05:02 PM
I got my 1970 boss 429 running today and discovered the brake pedal goes down and applies the brakes any time the engine is running. Is anyone familiar with the problem? Thanks Bob

Send the booster out to get it rebuilt. (I do not recommend 'exchanging' it) There are several places that do these rebuilds for around $150.
Be sure your master cylinder isn't seaping fluid into the booster, lest you'll need to do it again soon.

Booster Dewey: http://www.boosterdeweyexchange.com/

These are the two sources I have found & have them in the "hold" till I get a little closer in "need" for assembly.

Maybe others have comments on quality in the concours "finish" about these sources I mentioned.
As far as I understand about the 67's is that they are simply painted BLACK, and I believe it is the same on the 70's too.

DIY rebuild kits for the master cylinder and proportioning valve are available, perfect time to do those while waiting on the rebuild job.

I used Booster Dewey for my 1970 R code and was VERY happy with the job he did.

A friend of mine that has a boss9 took his booster down to the local Terminal Air Brake place and asked them about a rebuild.
Apparently that booster is common in other applications because they had the rebuild kit and did it for them right there for not that much money ( $100-150)

Thanks to all for the replies. I should have had it done while the engine was out, but we did not know there was a problem until the engine cranked.
