Use "Ford Car Parts" (aka the infamous MPC) to aid your quest. A link is in this forums library.

Great thanks. That explained the starter body, but did not cover the aluminum nose piece. Looks like the article has been updated since the last time I looked at it. Lots of great stuff there.

Interesting that it states that there would be a stamp in the metal casing as well as an ink stamp on top of that

Looking for a nice 19:1 HCC-AT manual steering box with approximate date between 6F1 (June 1 '66) - 6V6 (August 6 '66).  Must have original tag that is not blasted or sanded.  No severe rust or pits on box or shaft.

Just checking to see if the starter body is correct for my car and which nose would be correct or not. Would it decode as 1968, Sept 23, not sure about the part number. Would those noses be first gen 64 & 65?

Misc Items / Re: Rubber coated clips ??
« Last post by jwc66k on March 23, 2024, 07:15:39 PM »
I have tried plasti coat - but not quite the same .
I use black "Plasti Dip" on clips and such for years. Note - "DIP". It's available  at Home Depot. It usually takes two or three "dips" to cover a clip. (I use yellow on tools.)

Learning stuff does not mean you know anything. It just means someone taught you what to believe.
It must have been enough to work for a couple of aerospace companies successfully designing and building "stuff".

Metal fatigue is due to 2 basic factors: load and number of cycles.  Metal fatigue usually implies failure or imminent failure.  Before failure, the metal does become weaken and begins to yield.  Car springs must be designed for an incredibly large number of cycles to last 100k miles.  That said, if the car is a low mileage one, the metal fatigue should not be an issue; if the car has an awful lot of miles, the springs may be weakened.  This may explain the differences seen among the coil springs.
