1967 390 GT Dearborn engine inspection markings
« on: September 09, 2017, 04:29:51 AM »
Morning just been reading some information on the 69 Mach 1 further down in the section and would like to know the same really for a Jan 9th Dearborn 390 engine with GT package
I have seen the X on the headers or the S or even the OK stamp on the valve covers, but as Jeff said better with No markings than wrong Markings
Wondered if anyone has any info at all?

Ross

Since these markings were placed on the engine at the engine plant this detail would not be car plant specific but instead engine plant specific so moving this over in the 67-8 section.

Will post a couple of comments once I look up examples and notes but would not suggest that markings from a 69 would be the same for an engine two years earlier. We will see ;)

Took a look and could only confirm (number of examples that all had the marking) what appears to be a number on the forward face of the drivers side head surface.

Appears that they were applied (likely the difference was a different worker) with a circle around the number and without.

Number was single or double digit.

Applied more often (according to the examples I have) in white crayon marker

Now remember there would be markings on the carburator and possibly the distributor Separate from the engine assembly markings ;)

REQUEST  to other viewers: Please do not use or copy these onto your car unless it is a 1967 with a 390 or 428 originally installed. Every time we share these details they turn up on something completely different. For that reason I often don't share them in public but will give this a try.

Here you go Rossco - this should help

Upper right photo looks very familiar.    No need to copy when you have the original.   ;)

Jeff has an amazing collection of photos!

As you know one of my sources (of which there are many) are the good owners that have shared their findings over the years.

Don't say if often enough THANKS  to all that have sent, posted and otherwise shared their findings and information over the last 40 years or more

And it's not just the pictures or information it's having invested allot of time labeling and organizing so that they can be found and shared with some ease. As I've said before - a picture is useless without when and where (car data)  it came from   8)

And for that we have to give you a big THANKS. The time and effort you put into this is amazing.

Thanks... I find it interesting that the shades of blue are so varied on those pics.

Would not suggest that is a great take away or the colors you see are correct and true.  The difference is likely just the camera settings and other things that take place when you take and use digital tools to save and manipulate photos as we've warned/mentioned before

Best guess would be that it identified with an final inspector or the line the engine was assembled in. We already have the initial of the assembler on the completed engine so not much left
