Restoring Power Steering Pump
« on: October 19, 2010, 11:01:28 PM »
First I need to verify which pump I have.  Tag reads as follows:
BA  BF
   I
10 W18 6

I believe from Jeff's FAQ's that this is a TRW pump but the W isn't the second digit so not positive.  From what I can tell the it seems to have been painted black.

I pulled the pulley off.  I then knocked the reservoir off and removed the four bolts from the pump and pulled it all apart.  I replaced the shaft seal, the o-ring for the reservoir, the flat gasket under the four bolts, and the o-ring in the pump housing.  The seal kit has a few gaskets left that I cant figure out where they go and I doubt its there worth replacing.

I don't know where to go now.  How do you clean the cast section (that part the bracket bolts too).  How was everything painted?  When I removed the tag there was no paint under it but there doesn't seem to be much paint left on the tag either.  Was the shaft masked off before paint or was the pulley attached before paint.
