Feb 1965 dual advance distributor question
« on: December 02, 2010, 12:57:37 AM »
Hi,
I am just reassembling my c5gf? distributor and never took note of weather the max advance was set at a max of 10 deg or 15 deg  the car is a standard 289 a code with a very mild cam change, not sure exactly what the difference is i think it is supposed to make it breath better
I also didn't note what side the heavier of the two springs above the weights went on, one side the heavy spring fits loosely the other it has a little play but not as much, i think i have the heavy spring on the side marked 10 at the moment, and i have the max advance currently set so the larger 15 deg slot hits the rubber covered post.
and one last thing, do you grease the moving parts of the distributor, ie the 3 plastic blocks between the lower plate and the upper  vacuum advance plate, or the weights to the taper they run against? if so what type of grease? white lithium? i currenty have engine assembly lube, a light white grease.

thanks, any advice is appreciated
Graeme
