67-70 Big Block Battery cable question
« on: October 15, 2009, 06:42:06 PM »
No two cars seem to be the same as far as how I've seen the cables orientated on the battery terminals. Is there a concours correct installation as far as how they should be orientated? 67-70 Big block cars are my area of interest by the way. If someone has a pic, that might help also.
Thanks

67-70 24 or 27F battery illustration is in the electrical assembly manual of each of the 67,68 69 editions. The dotted line is the outline of the negative cable as it wraps around the side of the battery case on the outside of the holddown bracket. If you don't already have one it is a highly suggested  investment. I hope this helps. Bob

Looking around for a picture of the cable route for a 69 gp 27 battery.  Found this post and it seems my route is incorrect ?  Anyone care to share a photo ?  Thanks,  Brian

Brian, without a picture handy i wil have to resort to words . I will try and keep them less then a thousand LOL . Just route the neg cable to the backside of the battery hold down bracket instead of through the bracket like you have it . The cable runs between the apron and the battery hold down bracket typically. The cable routes behind a portion of the battery and when viewed form standing in front of the radiator shows up as a dotted line in the assemblyline manual illustration.  Orient the negative terminally head accordingly. Just the way the factory typically did it.

OK Thanks Bob for the description.  Following directions, as best, this is what I ended up with.  Close or right on the money ?  Brian

I broke down and took a picture. This is a 68 illustration but 69 would be the same in regards to the battery cables.  The negative is right on .Others way will work . This is how Ford typically did it.I hope this helps.

Interesting and thank you for posting the illustration from the 68 assembly manual.  Seems to present a couple of difficulties in an actual field application.  Brian

At least you can put your negative cable question to bed.
