Learn From My Mistake--
« on: July 30, 2014, 09:50:53 AM »
My '65 World's Fair Magic Skyway convertible was about 2 weeks from being completed when I was rolling it onto the driveway using the rolling storage dollies that so many of us use.  Well, trust me when I tell that when these things hit a crack in the driveway they will stop suddenly and drop the car.  This damage makes me sick after SIX years of meticulous work.

I am currently working with Hagerty Insurance to get this damage repaired, but at this stage of the game I really don't need this problem.

So, if you are moving your Mustang around on these dollies watch for cracks in the floor!! Learn from my mistake.   :'( :'( :'( :'(

I am sorry the mishape occured.  Thank you for providing others advice from this terrible experience.  Hopefully your heart has made it back out of the pit of your stomach and the path to resolving this will be short.  Im these instances my wife always tells me it could have been worse.  Something much more catastrophic could have occured (garage fire, tornado,etc...)

I feel so bad for you.. I think an issue like this is what most of us that cherish our cars fear, those unexpected mishaps. I hope this can be resolved quickly and your car can make it's debut!!! This is a great heads-up on the use of car dollys. Best of luck on it's quick return to the street!

Thanks for the sympathy guys.  I debated if I even wanted to share this, but if someone else can benefit from this info then it makes it worthwhile. I have two competent repair guys that have looked at the damage.  As we all know I can't just take it to Joe's Body shop.   I hope to have the repairs underway within a week or two.

On the bright side, at least you weren't under the car when it fell off the dollies!  I hope you're able to get it fixed quickly and competently (although those two adverbs are often in direct competition with each other when it comes to autobody repairs)...

I feel terrible and half gut-punched for you here also. The 3rd time I've read this and it hasn't gotten any better either. Glad too that you, a pet or anyone else wasn't in a position to get hurt too. Good thoughts and well-wishes from this direction, out to you as well.

Same thing happen to me last week with my 10 year restoration 66 GT Convertible...albeit my damage was nowhere near as bad. I have a chip in the paint under the GT stripe and the GT stripe has a slight scratch in it. Torque box caught worst of it (scratches) but that will be covered with sound deadener I will be duplicating from Spectrum Sludge. I'm taking it back to paint shop when she's done to touch up that and a small nick I put in the fender when I put the hood on. Man I feel super bad for you. :( Beautiful car!

Sorry to hear about the damage. I have been debating taking my 65 Fastback off of the cart before it comes home and putting it on it's wheels and your unfortunate event has convinced me that my decision to have it back on wheels first is the right one. I have another month or two before it is home so I have been restoring suspension components. Hope your repairs go well
