69' Mustang E' differential
« on: June 04, 2018, 02:25:52 PM »
While I had the axle removed to change out the differential, gasket 8"  I took advantage of the opportunity to clean and paint the axle and differential.  While cleaning the differential I did not find any red oxide anywhere on the axle.  Black on the tube housing with some yellow markings but no red oxide.  Any thoughts about what color I should paint the differential?

The axle housing is typically semi gloss black. The pumpkin was red oxide. If that was not red oxide, I would suggest it was rebuilt at some time.

Thanks, after taking the differential out of the garage and into the sunlight I can see the red oxide now.  I am repainting it red oxide now.  Was questioning it yesterday.

If you want to be an overachiever, there were bare metal machine marks on the pumpkin, after it was painted.
