Title: Pony Interior
Post by: rodster on August 12, 2009, 12:02:53 PM
Within the "Interior decor group" option, was there a listing of color combos for different body colors and were there options for carpet color? My 65 has a 69 trim code (Palomino crinkle vinyl - pony interior) and it appears to have what looks like ivy gold carpet. The dash is light brown.

I don't have a lot of 65 sales info yet but it might be listed in there?

Thanks

The carpet in your car would have been a light brown color.  It could have turned a greenish tint with age.  Have you checked to make absolutely sure it's the original carpet and observed areas that would not have been subjected to UV rays/weather?

Based on recent personal experience, I agree with Charles' color assessments completely! I have a '66 with parchment/palamino (D9) standard interior. The carpeting was REALLY rough and looked green, similar to a light ivy. It was VERY sun faded and worn. When I stripped the interior out I was able to locate sections that were still the original shade. It was from under the front seats and was a section of the rear carpet where the front carpet was over the top of it. The loops are uncrushed and it's like brand new. The color is indeed a light brown! Same with the dash pad, though I found unfaded color examples of that on the underside surface (above the instrument cluster). I've been very fortunate to locate unfaded color examples for all the soft trim areas. You just have to dig a round a little. ;)

I too pulled a section of the dash pad under the trim at the instrument cluster.  ;) in order to figure out what color it was. The dash is in bad shape but that section cleaned up fine.

As for the carpet, I can't guarantee it's original but everything else on the car seems to original (and rough). I pulled a section from under the dash near the gas pedal and the loops aren't crushed but the color sure looks like ivy gold. The areas that are exposed seem to be much lighter. Maybe I'll see what I find under the seats.

I thought it should be a light brown which why I was confused when everything looked green.

I pulled a piece of carpet from under the back seat, cleaned it up, and it's brown. Apparently early in the cars life the front carpet was replaced with green. ???

Looking at the back of the 2 samples it's obvious one is green and one is brown.

Thanks for the help...another mystery solved.
