C4 Forward Clutch Hub issue
« on: February 17, 2018, 06:12:10 PM »
I recently stripped down my C4 from the 66 GT Coupe and found the Forward Clutch Hub (I Think thats the correct name) to have what I believe has some issues.  As can be seen on the images there are two issues I believe.  First is the outer edge of the splines where there is what appears to be a worn ring all the way around the spline. Its not jaggered or consistent with having been worn on anything as this part of the hub does not really do anything as the clutch plates seat further up the spine.  From images I have seen on line, the spline should run all the way to the end but I'm not sure if this is the case for all C4 Hubs

The second question is the end of the splines are a little jaggered and rough which made it difficult to pull the Hub from the clutch plates.  I have been told that what I am looking at is not too much of a concern, just smooth the edges with a file ensuring the clutch plates slide on easy and it should be okay.

Has anyone had any similar issues and what is your opinion to the Hub.

Cheers
