Did the spare on a '66 styled wheel ordered car have a trim ring, or was it assumed you would use the one on the wheel it replaced?
-
My 66 GT was ordered with five Style Steel Wheels and all had trim rings. The spare Style Steel Wheel was another line on the order form, four were the regular quantity.

Hello, have 1966 Deaborn MI convertible, that I just put styled steel wheels on, my question is on the spare tire in the trunk. Trim Ring or No Trim Ring on the spare?
Saw different opinions on the subject over years while searching the site.
Just want to make it right.
Thanks

No trim ring
Well, mine does (San Jose, Oct 65). I've read different reports about the Style Steel Wheel spare tire's trim ring - it does, it don't.
What was stressed was that only four Style Steel Wheels came with the car as an option, a Style Steel Wheel installed on the spare was another separate option. In my case, it was on the spare tire when I bought the car in 1996. By the way, it's the original spare - unused (note the sidewall - smooth, no ripples, an "800 XP"). However, either of the two previous owners may have put the trim ring on the spare. (It looks better with it anyway.)

Agree if the wheels were factory installed the option came with 5 wheels and matching tires with four hubcaps and four trim rings. The tire option was separate and would be for a set of 5 all the same if anything other than the base tire.
At the dealer level the wheels came with 5 lug nuts and a trim ring and a center cap for $44.95 per box. This would not include any tires.

Outstanding thank you all for the answers, I will stay with the spare not having a trim ring. Very cool original red line tire. Here is a picture of my baby with new rims and tires on it. The tires I pulled off were not original but they were bias ply that the mfg date on them said 11.7.67 on the back.
