Error 64-66?
« on: December 08, 2015, 05:44:58 PM »
I was looking over the MCA judging rules (2015 edition) for 65 six cylinder 200 motors as to when the transition was from red to blue and noticed this:

64 - 260: Blue or orange-red valve covers and air cleaner assembly. Black snorkel and heat riser.

I always thought the 260 was light blue not red....

It's been there as far as I remember and I agree with you, I've only seen black 260's with blue valve covers and air cleaner (black snorkel).

Probably one of those things where proof needs to be shown to keep it in there.

We took that ugly air cleaner out of the rules for 64.5 back in the late 90's.  Nobody could prove it was ever used and it was obvious there was actual interference when used on a Mustang (the snorkel rubbed on the hood).

Here's an article of one with red covers: http://www.mustangandfords.com/featured-vehicles/mump-0105-1964-ford-mustang/
It was a decision by the owner to use red to tie in with the black on red car color combo.
"According to MCA rules, the engine could be painted either factory blue or factory red. Roy and Brenda liked red because like the interior, it popped out against the black paint when the hood was opened."

*sigh*, oh well, at least the article was from 2001.

Kind of like leaving the description of the undercarriage to the owners choice :(

Could be ....................

Have had my fair share of responses to the question "why did you paint your undercarriage that color"

Response "because I liked it and MCA rules say I choose between red oxide, ............"
