1965 Gas Tank Stencil

Selling  (1) Gas Tank Stencil by Jim Cowles.  Dated 1-8-95    $ 40.00  plus shipping.   Or i will be attending

I can still make these  $35  will need date code   920 434 3645   jim@shelbyparts.com     we can also do the work and sell the complete tank already stencil scripted  $275

is this correct for early built Mustangs (Oct 64 SJ)?  And do they go on the top of the tank or the bottom?

I believe this stencil was from the steel supplier, applied to the roll.  When run through the stamping machine, the stencil could have ended up anywhere, perhaps inside as well.  Could be that some tank sections were stamped in between stencils, so would get none at all.   This is not a gas tank part number stencil.   Again this is my understanding, based on reading coupled with a few observations.

USS = United States Steel Corporation logo
Long Ternes = lead/tin alloy coating (80/20 lead/tin)
1   8   65 = date
DQSK = Drawing Quality Special Killed steel
7272 = possibly the heat lot number?

The date code is Jan 8th, 1965 on this stencil, correct?
Also, what would the best date code be from a 65 first week of May
Shelby (San Jose date)?

+1 . Not visible on all or even a majority of tanks IMO.  None the less they are interesting.

Ive seen them on original gas tanks and I also saw same stenciled number on  roof panels when we had out plastic bead stripper.  Makes you wonder about how they prepped the steel before paint.  Its a nice detail item for sure on a tank bottom
