Front Shock To Tower Bolts, 67-70 -
« on: November 24, 2015, 12:26:28 AM »
There appears to be two different types of external tooth lock washers included as part of the bolt, used to mount the front shocks to the tower. The bolt is 42760-S8, as indicated on the 67-70 chassis manuals. The question is based on seeing a 9 tooth lock washer and a 12 tooth lock washer. The have the same head marking, an anchor (same manufacturer) but the teeth are a of a different design as well as count.
The questions are:
- is this a plant particular difference;
- is this a year difference, 67-68 vs 69-70.

Not sure if you can figure out the number of teeth from a picture but will post a bunch for you to get a start with your research.  Put them all to the side a few days ago but you hadn't a thread to start collecting data for and didn't want to post them to the NJ 69 discussion

I see 3 different styles of nuts used in the pictures.

Though the focus is the shock bolts I see two styles (the head details are difficult to see on some examples) of retaining nuts ;)

Different style of forming the nut to make it a self locking nut it appears

Almost appears earlier and later (after the #9R1135 car)

Will have to see what the other plants have to offer. Will keep it to 69 for the first rounds

  I know the emphases was on the shock bolt but couldn't help noticing the difference in the shock bracket nuts. I saw the typical tall flat top nut like the typical Dearborn style ,  a taller version of the rounded top nut  and a shorter version of the rounded top nut. I am very surprised at the variety of examples for one year (69) at SJ plant. I have never studied the 69 build at SJ so don't know if this is normal or not.
