Looking for input from owners who have their original strips still with their car. Helping out a member determining what color (black or gray) was used at which factories and time periods. If you have one - Could you please post
- When and where your car was built (VIN or just data will work)
- Body type
- Type/Color
- Length of the strip
For you unfamiliar with the strip, it was glued over the raised edge formed when the inner and outer rear wheel wells were welded together on the drivers side of the trunk. Don't want to use this thread to collect 65-66 data or the fuel wire retainer. Some of that has been done in other threads.

Jeff, do you know if this is the same material/profile that was used to provide a "pad" for the rear louvers on 1969 and 1970 sportsroofs? It it is, I have a good amount of the black material on-hand and can probably get the same material in gray.

Over all length is a bit over 11" and grey in color. Brian

scott different material than louvers seal . I sent an original grey luggage strip to chris brown to have made since the grey is hard to find & often missing . He sent me a sample & they are excellent but we are trying to figure out which cars got the grey vs more common black luggage protector so we know the concours correct market to sell the grey strips to as the common black has been repoed years ago & show up on later cars being wrong color until now we have the concours correct grey to sell. Also tring to get the correct length for year & body & from all my examples 69-70 (don't have any 68s) the 69 -70 fastback around 8 1/2" 69-70 coupe & convertible around 10 1/2" . & I have never seen any black (original cars anyway) on any (Dearborn anyway) cars after 68. These strips are glued on yellow glue & if not glued in place probly someone added them later so check for glue signs when documenting these cars. Odd thing about this running color change from black to grey luggage strip protectors is the opposite on the battery heat shields since they had a running change from grey to black color!

Ed, it's not the seal I'm talking about. There are small rubber "pads" on the louvers that keep the metal on the middle of the frame from touching the glass - here's a picture from the MPC (see the part circled in red). It looks like this might be the same material, just using a longer strip. If they are the same material using the same profile there's no need for a repro because I know of a commercial source that sells the stuff in long rolls. I just don't know if it's available in gray.
Does anyone have a picture of this strip showing what it looks like from the end? I expect that it's kind of like an upside-down "U" when installed.

we have a couple original grey strips on ebay & have been selling them for years but are almost out of them that's why we repoed the grey version & its more correct copy than the black repo that's been made years ago. scott this luggage strip is very thin plastic like where as the 2 louvers pads were thicker type rubber different size also. Call chris brown to get some of the new correct grey strips as they would be good to have on your lists of parts u make & sell.

Believe the profile is different. "Sides" are a different height if I recall correctly. Don't have the Boss at home at the moment or I could post a side by side comparison.

Would be interesting to see some pics of the Windlace style used on 70 with the fuel evap system. Never seen it.

i can do that for you John :)
Round corners, thick with the metal reinforcement and with texture/grain pattern just like windlacing around the side door and window openings

If you can't source some interior windlace from a car locally you can order some from NPD . I think you even can choose from different textures.

Parts cars are far and few in Europe and I do prefer original parts!

Then I guess you have a choice, ether give up and only think of ways you can't or think outside the box and think of ways to accomplish your goal . Example call West Coast Cougar or other Mustang or Cougar used parts vendors and buy some used windlace . Best of luck with what ever you decide.

john nothing special most windlacing is the same & always black on ca. evap cars i seen . Just checked a jan 69 built low mile met. car & original grey strip still glued in place.

Would be similar to what was used inside the cars in 70 not like the stuff used in the earlier years with the noticeable uniform pattern
Not sure if I have a close up of the later stuff. Maybe I'll check my Cougar

I'll cleanup and use the C code parts car strip in the K car.

I was going to ask if this applies to Cougar as well. Mine is MIA (Oct 1969, Dearborn build, California evaporative emissions).

Since the rear wheel tubs are shaped differently from Mustangs I don't think they are needed. The Cougars have an edge on the inners that is formed to bend over the outer and not create the same blunt/sharp edge as in a Mustangs. At least that is what I'm seeing in pictures of 68 & 70 Cougars

those lenghts are what i see on coupe & verts as fastback 8 1/2'' are u sure the Met car had a black from factory original to the car?
