Topic: 68 trunk wheel well seam cover

Is the trunk wheel well seam cover on the drivers side supposed to be grey in color ?
If so anyone know where to purchase the grey ones ?
I've only seen black ones for sale.

It appears that the color (not always) depended on the supplier so in turn it depends on the plant - what color the luggage protector is.

Currently the gray style (typically seen on NJ and Dearborn later cars) is not being reproduced so used is your only option. Believe you have a 68 NJ or 69 Dearborn car - sorry you didn't list it

thanks Jeff, car is a 68 1/2 San Jose car, so if I use the black repro I should expect a deduction, correct

Sorry I didn't make it clear - I believe if a judge is looking for a specific color for a 67-70 then it would go as follows

Grey - Dearborn and NJ

Black - San Jose

Hope this makes that clear. For the record I have seen a couple of San Jose 68's with grey in the earlier part of the year

Remember that they were attached to the car with a sloppy wipe of a paint brush with adhesive. The yellow weatherstrip sort of stuff

Here are some 68 San Jose pictures - unfortunately most cars have these missing and I noticed that I often take pictures of the car after I have removed it and put it in my bag   - at yards

Just about all the cars have a spot on the trunk floor where the worker either dripped or wiped the brush - or maybe both. Can be seen in the first picture also

My SJ June '68 build is grey........I've been trying to find the significance of the paper stuck to the wheelhouse, from what I have read In Mustang Monthly, Mustang Magazine, and an article written by Kevin Marti, some of the numbers refer to paint specs or identifcation,

Nope those don't (including the others)   Out of maybe 5,000 ones I've seen the black is still the most common ones found on 67-70 San Jose Mustangs. Example - yesterday visited a local yard - pulled 18 of them - only one was a gray one Will report that it seems that I find more grey ones during 68 at San Jose when compared to the other years

Could use each of the VIN's for these cars (pm if you want) so they can be added (along with the specific detail) to the spreadsheet. Only if you want. Guess I need to get the later years started
