In the perfect situations (and it does happen more often that one might think) the consistent judges of a class and the owner of the car establish a partnership rather than becoming adversaries. 

Well said, and a goal certainly worth striving for and reminding judges about constantly.
I don't always downshift, but when I do it is near a Prius so they can hear me hurting the environment.
