fuel - brake line connector clip
« on: December 03, 2015, 11:21:44 AM »
A minor detail to be sure, but I'm installing new fuel and brake lines.  While I am reusing restored hardware, I did buy the AMK kit primarily for the two clips that attach to the floor pan.

There is what I'm calling a connector clip, a spring steel piece that connects the brake and fuel line, in between the two floor pan clips.

Not to be surprised, but the AMK one does not look like the original.  You can see by the picture below that in fact the AMK clip is sized for two brake lines, rather than one brake line and one larger (5/16" in my case - early 67).

So my original is taking a bath in evaporust right now.   In case someone needs one, does anyone know of a source other than a donor vehicle?

The Ford fastener book (1969 version) shows the "type 16" clip as part 381799-S2 and appear to be what AMK provided.  But it is clearly different from my assembly line original part.

Your original one looks like it will clean up OK with the Evapo-rust. It might need a treatment of Gun Blue when you get it cleaned.

I have a new fuel line/trans line/choke tube catalog at home that I picked up in Columbus earlier this year...I'll put it on my "things to remember to do list" and if I actually DO remember...I'll look to see if they have any. "Bump" me if I forget ;) Funny timing, I had my AMK catalog out and open to THAT actual page when I then rolled the catalog closed and came to my computer to check this site at lunchtime :D Still chuckling about that coincidence!

Actually, the clip that you claim is nothing like the original is in fact correct for later 67s and all 68s. Specifically Mustangs with the two-piece fuel line. This equal sided clip was used to hold the rear brake line to the front brake line that went across the firewall. The clip you have is correct for early 67s and should be reused. AMK only reproduces what they have the engineering drawings for and typically when Ford updated the engineering the previous version went by the wayside.

As we all are well aware many running changes happened for the 1967 model production!

Pete,

Understood.  Buried in my post was that I'm talking about an early 67 car.  I did not specify that it has the one piece fuel line, but as you stated it does.

No problem Richard, I have the one that I need.  I was just posting this for those that do this after me, and to document what is correct for the early 67.

I am using The Right Stuff.  So far, so good.  Not perfect though.  I'll post a couple pictures later showing the issues, which are minor all things considered.  But not to exacting assembly line standards.
