I have not seen any 68s where slop gray was originally used.

If your thinking about bolt on items then I've never seen 68 Dearborn parts that were slop gray either on original cars

If you are referring to underside meaning the chassis and floors then I wouldn't call it slop gray but semi black. Looks like somewhere in the spring of 68 Dearborn switched to black instead of red oxide. Earliest I've heard of is May build date. I've seen a late May coupe a mid July fastback and my July vert as black. It popped up for discussion on the CJ forum last may that looked like Dearborn made a switch.

Haven't seen any red oxide (not saying there might be periods of us) on 68 Dearborn original cars on the floors as of yet. Though plenty of "restored" ones are redone that way

My 68 Dearborn car was a mid Feb. build. The undercarraige was semi- gloss black. No red oxide anywhere underneath. Car was original, unmolested. Hope this helps.   Doug

My June 2nd Dearborn-built coupe has a metallic undercarriage color that matches exactly to the paint on styled steel wheels.  There is a definite metallic sheen to it.  Dark gray is probably the closest description of the color.

My July 12, 68 vert was semigloss black, a mid June Cj I looked at was SGB and a late may 6 cyl coupe I saw 2 months ago was also black. All 3 were Dearborn original unrestored.

My january 68 dearborn fastback had a dark charcoal metallic paint on the floorboard areas. I guess this is what is described as slop gray.
Highland green 68 GT fastback/concours driven since 2000. 8f02j - 1-23-68
raven black 66 coupe/concours driven since 1991.6f07c- 5-14-66
rangoon red 65 Mustang JR. go-cart serial#02. not driven much.
Still drive them to the nationals/they do clean up!

So what is the predominant color for 68 Dearborn? SGB?

From the limited numbers (allot less 68 Dearborns when compared to other years) I would saw we'll find that the predominant "color" (if that term can be used) will turn out to be a batch color like most of the other years at Dearborn.

Remember that the collection of different colors and the base can take on allot of different tints from funky greens and blues to almost pure black
