Would a photo from an Oct. '69 build Dearborn 428CJ Mach 1 be helpful? If so, please let me know.

Hope this helps a little - gets more difficult after you add the shocks and exhaust to get a good picture of the area. They will be a grommet around the hole in the floor I believe

Yeah, thanks Jeff - I tried taking photos with all the other stuff in the way and couldn't get a shot that would really show much. Your photo was MUCH clearer.

FYI, the '70 Osborn Chassis manual shows this assembly pretty clearly on pg 37, upper RH corner.  Doesn't show a grommet in the point the hose goes into the body, but I see from your photo and the drawing there's supposed to be an alignment stripe.

Is that a yellow paint stripe around the hose?

Yes difficult location for a decent picture

Its a stripe - hard to tell what kind of paint was used originally. Be aware that if you use a repo hose some paints can react with the rubber (or what ever they make them out of these days) as I've had some shrink at the point of application when using enamel

The location mark for the clamp can be found on original and NOS (old ones) vent hose kits

Not that "kits" are always correct (love those decal kits ;)   but I don't think that is what we (no grommet) is what we're saying

My vent looks exactly like the pic, no grommet. Mine has original paint, I pulled the original carpet and found one of two build sheets , my good friend who traded me the car found the build sheet under the rear seat. 32,000 miles on it, stored in garage since 91ish. So im pretty sure that's the way it came

We just have to understand that depending on the item many times there are least 2 ways they came. One way is the way they were engineered to come (in this case with gromment) and the other way is how they came a lot of times on the assemblyline. You can also throw into the mix the random anomaly. I have seen the vent tubes in 69 (more my expertice) come more with a grommet then without but have seen it both ways. Not sure about the 70 but assume you have the same range of possibilities for the same reasons. Since it is your car you are the best one to decide which way you feel comforable restoring the car to given the facts and evidence. Ether the way it was engineered to be or the way it came. Your choice.

I think its a plant thing like the trans crossover brace having 2 small plugs in SJ & not dearborn. I never see the vent hose gromment on dearborn but have seen it on SJ.
