1970 mach 1 door sill
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:20:09 AM »
In the door of my mach, there was a black rubber/plastic seal between rocker moulding and doorsill. I am missing one side. Anyone seen athe good reproductionto or original? Seems like it would keep garbage from falling behind the rocker moulding

From what I understand this was a running change and no one has seen fit to reproduce this. It's too bad, as it would seem to be an relatively easy part to make.

I am interested to see what you find with MAC. I have not found any source for them and I have only seen a couple on Ebay with complete molding sets.

I have searched and asked a couple people if mine should have the door sill seal and have gotten opposite opinions. I would like to find out which 70 Mach1's got them?

"Door Bottom Seals" very likely refers to the rubber seal that runs along the bottom edge of the door itself. This is very much NOT the plastic strip that sits in the door sill area and fits between the rocker molding and sill. It is unique to '70 Mach 1s and not all of them had this installed as it came along later in the model year.

All I have on my 69 Mach 1 is a strip akin to duct tape to shield the wiring.

D'uh, for some reason I was thinking sill molding.
Probably the same "tape" from one year to the next for that.

This is the only picture I could find on this computer. This may help those to know what we are looking for. I think the strips are about 1/2" X 1/2" at an 90 degree angle.

I saw a Mach at a show last summer and in talking to the owner, he had gone to a home center, picked up a clear plastic corner guard of some kind, trimmed it to fit, sprayed it from the back side with sem black trim paint (to protect from scratching off the paint), and slid it into place - not concours, but it looked pretty good.
