67 390 belt diagram - Thermactor, PS, No/AC
« on: September 20, 2012, 12:22:06 PM »
I need of a belt routing diagram for a 67 390 w/PS w/Thermactor w/o AC.  I currently do not have a thermactor system installed and have a single belt alternator (some diagrams show 2 for alternator).  I need the correct pulley grove for the PS belt.  I would love to have the whole diagram or possibly photos to understand the Thermactor when installed.  All of my exploded views only show the right side of the motor belt routing.  Thank you

If you had AC and or thermactor you had a single alt pulley no thermactor or and no A/C you had duel. There is a different offset on P/S pulley (positive) for a non A/C car vs one with A/C too. The A/C one looks almost flat . The thermactor doessn't come into play there. It has been a while since i looked in the box but I have a 390 thermactor set up minus tubes and I think a bracket that I would sell for 100.00 plus shipping.  PM me for list of parts if interested.

Got to ask to start out. Did the system come with the car or did you build/collect it?

Thanks for providing when your car was built but was it assembled at San Jose or one of the other plants?  Have to ask since we've seen different parts being used at the other two plants.

With that said I do have multiple examples of 67 390 Thermactor cars with PS but no AC with dual alternator pulleys but those were early cars (Dearborn and San Jose)

Will look through more pictures.

Thank you to both.

Bob, I will PM you regarding the Thermactor parts you have.

Jeff, This was a San Jose built and San Jose delivered car.  I was equipped with the thermactor originaly, but by the time I obtained the car in 1990 all of the pieces were long gone.  If you have any photos of the belt layout I would appreciate it.

Believe one of the assembly manuals has the routing but can't be sure and not sure what time period it shows

Here is some pictures (sorry for the poor lighting and angle - wasn't taking them of the belt arrangement )

Note that this example is from an early car - Dearborn S code Thermactor with PS and wo/AC

Do have 7R02S141857 which has the same arrangement but the pictures are from a worst angle

Green arrow - Shows the PS belt from another angle

Blue arrow - Shows the PS belt passing under the water pump pulley

Pink arrow-  Shows the Thermactor pump pulley (now missing) belt hanging down and the upper water pump outer pulley with no belt

First picture shows the double alternator pulley and belts (using the inner belt track )

Same arrangement on 7R01S108xxx

Hope this helps

Here's a shot of my car (390/Power Steering/Thermactor/No-AC assembled Sept. 1966 in San Jose).  The Thermactor system was missing from the car when I bought it as well, but all of the pulleys were still in place...

Thank you to everyone for the help.  The pictures were very helpfull.  Now I have dicovered my pulley is bent.  I will post in the WTB section, but if anyone has a PS pulley stamped AG I would appreciate a PM if you would like to sell.

Thank you,

So I finally found a very expensive AG stamped PS pulley and I am getting ready to put it back together.  Thank you to Bob for helping me obtain a Thermactor system I will be fitting that this winter.

Is it correct to understand from Paperback Writers photo of the left side of the engine that the Themactor belt only drives off of the WP pulley and not the balancer as well?

That is what both the pictures I posted and his so I feel pretty confident that the Ford diagrams will show the same and in turn be correct
