1969 Mustang / Re: 69 Grande stripe
« Last post by Eragon on Today at 11:55:54 AM »
Hi all.
Finally i bought the Stripes which most of the cars on the pictures seema to have: black with gold accent. Another reason was that i did Not find a company which sells black with white accent.
Now I mounted the stripes on my pony and what did I find? At the inner Side of the passenger door there is a small rest of the original Stripes... Black with white accent...  ::). So I will continue to search the correct one for my car...

Thank you Royce,
But If I want to buy frame side mounts they are listed as fitting as 1965 to 1970 mustang.  Does that mean that those aftermarket frame side kits are the same for the '68 as you point out?  That's my question.

It appears that there are several different versions of "factory" parts for this period.  I don't just want to assume that the aftermarket suppliers settled on the one variant that fits all of those models in-between.  I am hoping to get a confirmation of that assumption.

I don't know what you would get. I would just buy factory 1968 parts. Reproduction stuff usually doesn't fit or work right.

I have not used the repro frame mounts but expect them to be deficient in some way or the other. I would buy 68-70 used if it were me. OEM parts will fit better for sure. Yes the aftermarket suppliers settled on the one variant that fits all of those models in-between.

Thats  2 70 mustang cj long time experts  talking there.  Lots of running changes in the  rare 70 model year and a much different car than the more common 69 model. There are 4 different 70 mustang owners manuals compared to 2 69 owners manuals yet 5 times more 69 cars than 70 models. Welcome to the CMF forum bruce so now i dont have to worry about  calling to early getting u out of bed with the western time zone changes. It was always fun going to the AZ rustfree junkyards with you back in the good ole days before the big scrap metal crush. Hidden Valley and desert valley yards were the biggest and best junk yards ever and u could spend all day there looking for parts back in the 80s and 90s anyway.

Only 1968 small block frame mounts will work with new rubber isolators.

Hi John,
Yep, it's me.  I finally signed up to post on here after many years of just stopping by.  I always read your postings, you are a real expert on the 70 Mustangs, thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Okay, so I think I got a handle on this, but getting confirmation is difficult.  The parts suppliers simply do not know the minutia of these details.

So a set of aftermarket frame side mounts is listed as fitting 1965 to 70 and the motor mounts are listed as 1965 to 72.

It appears only the 1967 factory frame side hardware is unique.

If I just purchase the aftermarket frame side brackets and motor mounts it will fit my car and the motor will sit correctly in the chassis.  At least that is what I am thinking.  If it weren't for the fact I am doing major reconstructive work in this frame rail and shock tower area I would just put it in and take some measurements, but I'll be placing the shock towers based on a mock up of the engine and transmission with these as connecting parts.  I'd like to know before I start fixing parts permanently.

Does the above logic sound reasonable enough?  Is anyone out there with first hand experience that can offer any advice?

PS I am not being that particular about being correct.

Its been quite a while since I owned that Mustang, I now have a 67 390 GT Coupe.  The 66 was my first Mustang and I restored it as much as original as possible, so all of the suspension, exhaust interior engine bay etc was Factory.  I prefer the original look that the souped up versions of the Mustang.
