Title: Metuchen Radiator Cap?
Post by: wm3798 on September 21, 2014, 11:17:37 AM
Asked this question over on the Boss 302 site with no responses. Its pretty well documented what the Dearborn plant radiator cap looks like but I haven't seen much on what the Metuchen plant used. Did they use the same supplier/ same cap or something different. (pic is the Dearborn radiator cap)

Looked through my pictures and it is very rare to find an original still on the car after all these years.

Could not find a single NJ car (just what I have pictures of) with the small rivet cap on it. Have a half dozen reportably "unrestored" cars though most have been played with in some way making IMHO trusting what I see difficult

Tried :(

This is the reproduction chrome cap I got for my car.  Of course under the impression it was a faithful copy of the original.  Will be interested to see how faithful that might be.  Brian

The seller may provide better pictures if asked to do so.  The center rivet looks different than the repo.

Looks like a later service replacement

Its most likely (going by past example sand practices) that the reproducers used NOS/service replacements as their guide when making the new ones

Notice the differences between the following

I noticed the FONT size is different on the OE cap, there is a larger gap between the arrows.

That cap is marked Motorcraft not Autolite. It is the evolved service version.

Thanks Bob. I thought I found a gold mine part one of you might want. I wasn't sure about the motorcraft label.
