Title: Numbers for a 66 hipo 9'' 3rd member
Post by: geicoman58 on April 30, 2017, 01:08:45 PM
Hi folks, I own an April Dearborne built 66 hipo automatic gt f.b., Many years ago I swapped out the original case and now I would like to go back to the correct stamping number unit as I may need to build a different rear for the car. Any ideas what to look for? I have a C7AW but would like to try and get a correctly stamped one if its out there!

Believe your looking for the single vertical ribbed, no plug C4AW-4205-A (casting number) case with the C5AW 4668A (casting number) pinion retainer

Welcome to the site.

We should swop some pictures of our cars, I too own a 1966 Automatic GT K-Code fastback built in San Jose on February 10th of 66. Would love to see some shots since our cars are so similar and a little on the rarer side being automatics...

Thanks,

Jason

Thank you Jeff and Jason! That should be an easy enough case to find, now getting close on the date code.............Anyways, yes, our cars were rare birds. I bought mine back in 78 only because I  needed an automatic due to a knee injury leaving me unable to drive my 56 f100. I did not know what I was buying at the time.  I will try to add some photos to my profile and fill it out a little better, maybe an introduction post as well. Great site with a wealth of knowledge. I am usually over at v.m.f. as well, but want to branch out!

Jeff,   would these casting numbers also apply to the 1967 HiPo case and retainer?

Yes and no for the main case. Can't comment on the pinion retainer for the K code being the same the complete year

Believe there were two versions used in 67 do it depends on when the car was built

To add - 66 and 67 pinion shields are different too.
