I did get another comment from Bryancobb (a well known member on this forum) who said:
"I'm pretty sure your windshield washer bag should have gold lettering instead of white?"
This seems to be what I am finding in original cars close to my buck date.
I'm late to this party but for the record, my Jan 20 Metuchen Sprint has the wide "FORD" script, I'm assuming gold bag. Hard to tell color because its faded. Definitely not the narrower "FOMOCO" bag.

From October Metuchen with flip top

Thought I would split the more recent post related to 1966 NJ washer bags off to its own thread so that a more focused discussion and posting of findings could be done ;)

My Jan Metuchen coupe also had the wider gold bag when I obtained the car. Its certainly an original bag but wasn't sure if it was original to that car or not. At the time i thought that bag wasn't being used until mid year so I went with the smaller white bag. Im curious now what the majority is if i have the wrong bag installed..

Really on a quest to determine which bag is correct for my jan 66 NJ Coupe. I ran across this car today at the Carlislie Ford Nationals. A good amount of the car seemed to be original including this washer bag. Scheduled build date of February 4th From NJ.

Notice it has a 65 washer pump with the flip top washer bag. When did they start with the 66 style pump?

IMHO appears that the bag has been replaced. Don't know why such an early example would have that later bag since they were still supplying the screw top to the other two plants for a fair amount of time after Jan/Feb.
Must suggest that looking old doesn't always mean original

Remember that there was the smaller/narrower bag that was often in the kits to add windshield washers (not a standard item at the time) by the dealers This can add confusion when comparing what we find years later.
Real hard for me to offer allot of info since there are few good unrestored NJ 65's out there.
Only example with a bag still in it is the screw on style I found in 5T07T1618xx which had a projected build date of 10S. Car is report to have had 49K miles. Bag printing is pretty nice and white thought the brass grommets are old and tarnished

Mine also came with a 65 style pump along with a few other 65 parts changed during the 66 model year.

Mine also has the 65 pump and the flip top gold letter bag. Built very close to this one.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like your car was a day ahead of mine. I don't think I ever mentioned but I also have the 65 pump.

My unrestored NJ October 1965 build has the narrow FoMoCo bag with white letters, flip top.
