I saw this one on the bay...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-hood-moulding-for-69-70-Mustang-C9ZZ-16856-A-MINT_W0QQitemZ320464306489QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item4a9d294139
I thought I had read that each year was slightly different?

Yes, 69 & 70 are different. 70 had a reinforcement that fir behind the molding.

Yes, and the retaining nuts are different too. AMK carries the correct nuts for both years.

The 69 and 70 mustang hood moldings are different and have seperate part #s c9zz and d0zz for the 70 model. The actual molding is different due to the grille trim differences between 69 and 70. Both parts will bolt up to the hood since the hood is the same however the trim will not match up. As for as the retainer part that is behind the molding I am not certain if this was used on both years or not as I have heard it was a 70 only part but I have a original paint 69 hood with the 69 flat black paint and the hood pin style retainers and this hood had the retainer. This may have been a part added later in the 69 production, maybe someone can clarify that.

I believe the '69 molding has a more "peak" than the '70 version to match the outer moldings.
-
Actually,
I think you will find the 69 and 70 hoods Are different. Subtle, but different.

The only difference between a 69 and 70 hood to my knowledge is the inner structure has larger holes to accommodate the larger twist lock style hood locks on the 70 MACH 1.
I believe FORD only sold the 70 style as a service part after the 70 production began. I used to buy hoods 25 years ago from FORD and they had the D0ZZ part # which is for a 70 even if you ordered it as a 69. As for a outside appearance and dimension they are identical.

This is absolutely correct. The 69's had a more elliptical shaped hole and the 70s necessitated a larger round hole to accommodate the twist-style hood lock.

Those were the differences I was referring to, as I said subtle.
The indentation for the Air Cleaner is also different on a '70. It has a dimple on the right (passenger side) the '69 does not.

well there are more differences then you think.........
1) the front corners on the underside are slightly diff.........see pic
2)the area for hood pins as mentioned
3) next to the hood latch there was an indent on the bracing the hood latch bolts to.....seems there was a change maybe Jan 1970 on this?
I will post a pic when my other computer gets back from the shop if Jeff or someone does not post before
also hoods have a date code on drivers edge on underside
