Title: Correct timing chain cover and pulleys/brackets for feb 65 A code
Post by: GM on December 21, 2009, 01:07:20 AM
I have an A code 289,15th feb 65 build, it has the Eaton power steering pump, auto trans power drum no other options.
I don't have the timing chain cover or the pulleys, (except the power steering pulley and brackets,
I also have a alternator bracket with a c5 number looks identical to the one with a c6 number.)
I don't know what the correct timing cover is for this era, is it the  C4OE-6059-A that takes the aluminum pump?
and if so where does the dipstick go?
I also have no idea, and am having trouble finding out the correct pulley arrangement for this engine,
am i supposed to have a triple pulley on the crankshaft or double?, what part numbers am i looking for?and where is a good place to buy them.
Does anyone know of a link to some good photo's of the above optioned motor?
I would really like to get this right so any help is appreciated.

Thanks   :)

Your Feb. 65 289 would have had an aluminum water pump, so you'll need to find the C4OE timing cover.  If you decide to go after a date-correct one, you'll be looking for one with a 64 with 11 or 12 dots or a 65 with 1 or 2 dots.

The pulley arrangement with an Eaton pump is the same as the Ford pump, dual crank pulley going directly to the pump pulley.

A good source for information like this is the Bob Mannel book:  www.fordsmallblock.com

Thanks Caspian 65.
I will order that book, looks like a good thing.
Does the book get as specific as part numbers? or do you know another source for those.
Once i have the part numbers needed, Does anyone know a good source for the parts? or a good Mustang wrecker that knows his stuff.
Thanks again Caspian

Yes, the book contains a very comprehensive engineering/part number reference throughout the pages.
