Title: 65 SJ Leaf Spring Shackles
Post by: G Wood on January 11, 2010, 11:53:44 AM
Can someone confirm that the leaf spring shackles for a Nov built, 65 Fastack are black. After stripping mine, it appears they were black but I'd like confirmation.

Thanks

They were a darkened steel appearance, not black.  Similar finish to the leaf springs.

Thanks, I'll take a look at them again tonight but I was certain there was black paint on them. After soaking in Evaporust, the surface appears to be painted unlike my springs that came out natural.

If you read the evaporust website, they make note that any blackened material that washes away when rinsing has to do with the carbon content of the steel.

Have never seen an original SJ Mustang with rear shackles that were painted. Seen plenty of them painted by PO's   - just took a set off that were red :P

Yes, I rinse the parts when I take it from the Evaporust and scrub where needed. Just checked again and they really look to be painted black but can't say for certain. Since I can't determine for certain then I'd defer to your advise.

Also consider that they might have been replaced at some point in time.
