Title: 1970 Dearborn B2, T-stat housing and water pump bolts
Post by: app01 on February 25, 2013, 04:39:59 PM
May 15, 1970  Dearborn Boss 302

I have a few questions on the bolts used for the thermostat housing.
1. Do these bolts look like the correct head markings?
2. Also what is the correct finish? I have seen finishes that look like a bright zinc, to a dark color.

Referring to the water pump, picture,  there are 3 types of bolts used, and I am not sure if any of them are correct. Functionally they are all the correct lengths, but I am not sure on the head markings.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Tony

T stat housing bolts are correct, originally zinc but get painted of course. Not sure on the water pump but they dont quite look right

Tim, Just to clarify the bolts being painted. I know that there was a paint mask that was put over the intake, and most likely draped over Thermostat housing area. Would you expect that both bolts be covered with paint?

My impression was that any paint on the housing would have been just overspray from the block and would have hit the front surface and most likely the lower bolt.

Thanks,

Think Tim overlooked this  was a 70 Boss 302 question and didn't include the different practices used when painted these specific engine - even different from 69 Boss 302. Bottom line yes your understanding that (for some unknown reason) the 70's  appear to have used a larger mask that covered the intake and the thermo housing
