Title: Correct Washer Bag for Dec 65 NJ
Post by: 66RavenGTCoupe on July 22, 2014, 03:43:05 AM
Ok,My sig says it all but my car was bucked Dec 7 1965 in NJ.

My question is: Which washer bag was used - the wide one with the gold print or the narrower one with the white print?
The car was for the most part an untouched survivor but these bags would be so easy to replace its impossible to tell if the wide one with the gold print that was all hard and dried up that came with the car was the original and/or correct one.
Was there a run-out of the gold ones and a change over to the white ones? If so do we know the approximate date? Did different plants use different ones? Were both used at any given time?

did you come up with anything yet? no one else has chimed in so i'll throw 2 Bob in

as near as i can tell early built 65's (that is mustangs built in 64) used a twist on lid, white logo. one parts source (US) says twist lids were before 3/9/64 (!) but i thought i had seen them on much later ;), perhaps he meant before sept 64 or march in 65 (?) . then its the not wide bag, white FOMoCo script with flip top for 65's and most 66's. it appears late 66's (think i saw the month Oct when i was reading something, at that month i cant imagine many 66 got them!) may have used the gold script wide bag which was used on the 67's until they changed to plastic reservoir after march in 67.

of course there can be some overlap and some bags (reservoirs) from other ford models fit so you could end up with anything from red wide bag (e.g. from a 66 galaxy) etc if it was replaced or added for any reason. or in 65 if the car wasnt ordered with the option extra washers you could end up with a red bag that came in a kit the dealer could install, usually had rotunda written on it but i have seen fomoco red bags as well, no doubt you could insist on a black reservoir if you didnt like red because the flacons and comets used them. ;D

I did get another comment from Bryancobb (a well known member on this forum) who said:

"I'm pretty sure your windshield washer bag should have gold lettering instead of white?"

This seems to be what I am finding in original cars close to my buck date.

My 66 is also a T-Metuchen build and from the bits and pieces of the build sheet I have (not much) I can see the scheduled build date 09M I think that means DEC 09. Judging by the production #'s mine was close to yours 166812. I recently cleaned my washer bag and it revealed white "FORD" lettering. I can't say if mine is original, seeing as I am finding out that there were parts removed from the car and replaced at a later date.

Daniel.

the white washer bag is best suited for your car.  I have no evidence from anyone that the gold writting washer bag was used on a mustang as early as your build date in the 66 production year.

my earliest found examples, both Dearborn cars where June 16 (16F) and June 27th (27F)
