Title: Courtesy Light bulb - 631
Post by: ChrisV289 on November 20, 2014, 08:55:13 PM
Has anyone else run into the issue of these light bulbs not fitting correctly in the courtesy light housing under the dash?  I finally took a nail file and filed off a little bit of the lip where the glass on bulb goes into the brass housing on the bulb itself...

There was a post about this exact issue on this site a few months to maybe a year ago.  I found it!

I ran into this problem on my car also, the bulbs from the auto parts store
have a lip which interferes with the prongs on the socket, I was able to
find a few good original bulbs on some extra harnesses I had but maybe
you could try to slightly bend the prongs to make clearance.

Tried to bend the prongs a little bit but then the housing won't mate with the bulb socket if you separate it.  Read the original thread on it, and wish someone would fix the issue already but the bulbs are made in China...

Once the socket is snapped in place then try bending the prongs a little for clearance.

The way I fixed the issue (I use a lot of 631, 1004, 1157 etc) is go on Ebay and buy a pack of vintage bulbs. The are under Tung Sol, Wagner, GE, Fein etc. Just look for brass bases. Usually you can get a 10 box for 10-15 bucks

Ordered the GE 631 bulbs and got them today.  4 bulbs, brass bases, in the GE 2 bulb packages, $10 and they fit my 65 just like the originals.  Thanks TLea.  Brian
