Material between fender and fender apron

On a 67 Dearborn car, what is the material that goes between the fender apron and the fender (where they come together)? I've seen black and a kind of dirty grey on different cars. Where do you get it the product?

Most have found stuff in chalking guns to be too runny so many have turned to using 3M strip chalking. Not sure if it comes in the dark gray (IMHO don't use the light gray stuff) but it comes in a black which really isn't a dark black.
For application remember it was placed on the outer lip of the inner fender aprons so it rarely was visible expect at the VIN cut out on the drivers side on early Mustangs
