I checked pictures of 66 Shelby Convertibles and they had the export brace
but not any other brackets except the Monte Carlo bars of course.

You beat me to it... yes, definitely no convertible tube braces on those cars since the monte carlo bar was used.

What about the 4 Shelby Convertibles produced by the end of 1966 production year?

In period photos of them I've never seen the cowl bracing. Others may have a different recollection.  It seems the near consensus is the cars with an export brace installed by Ford did not have any additional braces.

Not really the same since we're discussing export cars but as you mentioned in another post - no convertible braces


What's that metal looking tag on the fender apron to the left of the VIN stamping?

During the 60's many countries outside of the US required ID tags attached to the unibody ad since the Mustang and many other Fords was attached to the door the different countries installed their own when the car entered and was registered

Seen a fair number of them

A picture of the engine compartment of 6S2377 I took when it was dropped off for some "minor" work (coolant leak that got real involved). There is no convertible bracing in the engine compartment. I think the picture was taken in 2003 (35MM - before digital).

Just looked at my small collection - seems the information differed depending on country - but just about always VIN and weight ( likely for tax purposes)

Though not all exports got these extra required labels/tags

I have started to do a small "investigation" on the 65/66 convertibles sold new in Sweden. No cowl braces yet, and will come back if/when I get more responses.

Regarding the extra "tags" - Sweden did not have them.

Have seen extra tags on Finnish-, German- and French cars. Probably on cars in many more countries.

the weight on the tag seems heavy to me:    1,675 Kg. = 3,685 lbs.  ? ?

I think the French government is cheating the owners if they are basing the tax on the weight….  Maybe it includes the occupants weight ?



hacked dash.  the owner tells me all the Mustangs imported into France got this treatment. The radio frequencies over there didn't match up with the radio Ford installed, and the importer or dealer installed radios  were differently sized.

Also, the Koni shocks were added on by a previous owner.
