'65 grille hardware
« on: August 12, 2015, 04:37:48 PM »
can someone please tell me what hardware goes in these two holes?  I've searched all thru the hardware spreadsheet, even doing a search for 'grille' and 'support', but the only hardware that comes up is either 5/16x18 or 10-12.

BTW, the hole diameter is 17/64"

Thank you,
Kelley

Same as the other 6 hex screws on the grille.  There should be 2 slide clips on the grille for the screws to attach.

Not quite. They are the same screws but are a different finish, 42127-S2 (phosphate and oil). The description used in the spread sheet is "GRILLE PONY/CORRAL SUPPORT-GRILLE CENTER", although Ford called the item (C4ZB-8194) "Retainer - Radiator Grille Ornament". I set up the hardware nomenclature to consolidate a group of parts such as everything associated with the grille will use the first word "GRILLE".

CF was typical on San Jose cars.  'D' or plain seen on Dearborn/Metuchen.

The plating sometimes match the other grille attaching screws, sometimes they don't.

Whadayaknow....  I thought for sure that those two holes were too big for the 10-12 screw, but I guess it does work!  I thought for sure that it would be closer to a ΒΌ-20 screw with a recessed hex head.

Thank you Rodster for the pic.

BTW, my head markings are CF

Guess I'll finish up the grill today  :).  Thanks everyone!

Thanks. I've updated the spreadsheet to reflect the "CF" head for a San Jose application. There's only so much room on the spreadsheet for detailed information.
If you haven't considered getting a set of the Osborn Mustang Assembly Manuals for your year Mustang, you should.
