Firewall holes on 1969 Mach1
« on: June 05, 2010, 09:49:17 AM »
I need to check which holes are correct and which need to be filled in. Along with the Mach1 details below it has factory power steering, standard heating and drum brakes, but I'm changing to factory air conditioning and power brakes (comfort and safety).
I have filed the hole so the power brake master cylinder fits.
Are all of the holes numbered 24 used with factory air?
Also is number 16 used for the blower motor wire with factory air?

Here is my list;

1 Engine Earth
2 Sealing Grommet
3 Throttle Cable
4 Wiring Loom
5 Brake Line Holding Clips
6 Peg for Shifter Wire Harness Clip
7 Peg for ? Clip
8 Heater Hoses
9 Punched holes not meant to be there ??
10 Hole for After market A/C Hoses
11 plastic wiring loom retainer
12 windscreen wiper motor earth
13 wiring loom earth
14 grommet/loom wiper motor
15 point to clip plastic strap onto
16 grommet heater motor wire
17 wiper motor mount
18 brake master cylinder and pedal support
19 park brake cable
20 steering column
21 ?
22 ?
23 ?
24 heater box
25 ?
26 ?

thanks for any help, Andrew

Great post! I have intended to ask the same questions for my SJ 69 Mach1 but, never got around to it.

Here are a couple of corrections, the Parking Brake cable enters thru the frame rail, TQ box & then thru the floor-pan. Someone will correct me if I have missed any.:

7 - Peg for plastic strap to hold brake line (under #5 there is another stud for a like strap to hold the wires to the hood scoop turn signals if equipped)
10 - Clutch Rod
19 - Speedo cable
21 - Trans Cross-member
22 - (Not sure what this is but I have several pictures with 2 items extending from it)
23 - Wire feed (neutral safety switch, Oil sender, Wiper motor)
25 & 26 - Accelerator pedal screws

Thanks Mike that's narrowed it down a bit, it's been a long time since I pulled everything apart!

10 - Clutch Rod, should this hole be blanked off for FMX trans? if so does anyone have a photo?

Here is a 69 San Jose factory air car.

You'll notice a large hole under the pinchweld which I have plugged because I'm mounting a brace there.

This hole is where the vacuum hoses come out for the ac controls.

There are also two plates that cover the heater and ac hose area.

22 is a rubber locator of some sort. Maybe to center and hold the firewall insulation in place. I'll try to get under the dash and find out what it is.
13 is ground for hood scoop mounted turn signal harness.
10 is not the clutch rod.

Thanks for those replies, Number 10 will be plugged and will make provision for the heater hoses near where the a/c lines go as in Sluggo's pic
