Firewall grommet
« on: October 31, 2016, 03:53:20 AM »
Hi.
I was after the recessed firewall grommet that is probably 1inch wide and is situated on the upper left of the trans tunnel.
There are two holes inline with each other and they look like they have been pressed from the inside.
I dunno what they are called or where I can get them from.
Car is a 67 fback 390 SJ.
Cheers

I'm not picturing what you ask. Can you upload an image?

This is not my car but it's the grommet that go into the larger holes that are one above another.
Hard to describe.

OK, Now I got it!

On AC cars (and heater delete?), these so-called grommets would be used to cap off the holes the heater hoses would have come through.(essentially, un-capped ONLY if without factory AC). The two grommets or caps should be the same and nothing passes through them once in place.

Available I believe through AMK and pretty sure Scott Drake makes them too

The grommets go in from the out side.

So will these grommets still work even though the holes have been pressed from the inside?
Looks like they have a little lip on them on the engine side.

Yes they will still hold inserted from either side. Do have then installed from the inside out on cars from other plants but for 67 San Jose the typically way (as mentioned above) we find them is from the engine compartment side

A poor example with not any visible sealer over the area as it was originally though the plugs still seem to ahve some on them
