The factory should have used a "Mercury" door tag blank, but mistakes happened.

I have a few examples of "Ford" door tags in my extensive collection of Cougar door tags and body buck tags.

Don't forget to send a copy of the info to Phil Parcells, for the Cougar Database.  And maybe cc me as well?  ;-)

For anyone else in a similar situation, with Cougar VINs or door tags, you can submit the information directly on the Cougar Club of America website, here:

Pete, Scott Taylor got back to me last night. That VIN is a new one to the registry. We appreciate any and all 1967-73 Cougar VIN's for the various registries and National Cougar Database as Mike mentioned. Thank you!

CCP:
Glad to help. As I stated i'm from Chatham Ontario, home to the famous 'Border Bandits' drag racing team. Back in the day Sandy Elliott motors sold a great deal of high performance Mercury's. Many of those cars are still in the area.
My brother owns a 68.5 Cyclone Cobra Jet and a 68.5 Mustang, both sold new at that dealership.
I know of another '69 R-code Cougar, and with the show season around the corner I will try to relay the information on this car to you if i see it (with the owners permission of course).
                           Pete.
