Firewall Mounting Studs
« on: March 05, 2018, 02:19:57 PM »
I have a 69 convertible that I had to replace the firewall with a reproduction. The new part doesn't have the wire loom hanger studs on it though I'm told that I can just use nails and weld them on from the back. My question is what size nails do I use? I thought I kept a sample of this section of the firewall when we moved but now I can't find it. As an alternative to the nail size, does anyone have the size of the stud base as well as the head?

Thanks for all the advice.

At least on my 67 the T shaped "nail heads" on the firewall  are the same as used to hold on the windshield trip clips.

Some rental shops rent the electric dent removal stud guns that are used to resistance weld studs to dents in order to pull them with a special puller.
This dent removal gun also has the option of welding on these T shaped studs. You will have to buy a box of the studs. Rent or borrow the gun (from a body shop friend).

The head is 0.2". I didn't measure the main body.

A stud gun can be used to put new ones in place, but if you don't have access you could use these and after they are installed, fill in the head to smooth them out and no one would know.  Good luck!

.2 head is great. Thanks. How far do they stand out?
