69-70 Mach 1 non functional hood scoop "Short Boss"
« on: August 14, 2019, 02:59:25 PM »
I have a 69-70 Mach 1 non functional hood scoop and underneath it says "Short Boss." Has a bunch of part #'s on the underneath of the scoop in same area as the "Short Boss" which I cannot read very well because it was painted and the paint is flaking.

Is this a repro? If not why would Ford use the term Short Boss?

If you can't post a picture maybe the part numbers would help us. Don't recall ever seeing the term except possibly in the aftermarket.

I have one of those scoops from a 69 kicking around, I'll try and find it for pics.
Sounds original to me from what I remember based on your description.
Short boss refers to the drill depths for the mounting stud bosses I'd say.
Probably a heads up to not go to deep for that part of the building process.

Wow, I found it easily.
I think I'm all wet regarding my theory now that I see V in quotations after SHORT BOSS though.
Anyway, if your scoop looks like this it's 50 years old ;D

Yes! Exact same markings. Wonder what the "v" means, too.

Someone else suggested that "short boss" could be in reference to it being shorter than Boss 429 scoop.

Wish I could post pics. I was just getting the hang of it when photo bucket started charging for their service and I never found a replacement.

thanks guys.

Just use postimage.org for sites that don't allow you to upload pics directly
Re Boss 429 I don't know about shorter but definitely skinnier

You do have your own gallery here on the site for pictures you want to post here. Makes it nice and neat since if you host them elsewhere and that site goes down then the links are gone - like many older threads here :( . If they are linked to pictures in your gallery they still show as long as the site is up

Just a thought - though if everyone stories large amount of pictures then the site cost could increase a little over time

I've seen the same on several.  Never thought much of it but I can confirm at least seeing it on to different scoops in the last year.
