Driver Air Vent knob/cable mount question
« on: September 09, 2019, 05:22:26 PM »
Per every reference picture I have ever seen and Osborn pages, I mounted the Air vent knob bracket to be immediately left of the steering column as pictured.
When I go to attach the baffle arm to the cable, the cable length appears more than 2" longer than it 'should be', I have to bend it far to one side to connect and clamp-it does not operate smoothly.
It  almost seems it wants to be mounted closer to the door pillar. The second picture shows 2 ready holes under the same dash edge. It looks as if it may have been mounted here before (or something was). From Osborn manuals that looks like where a 6 cyl choke control cable would mount. And if I do mount the Air knob there it looks as if your left hand would get knuckles skinned when you go for the parking brake.
Please set me straight here.

The air vent cable bracket is installed in the correct location.

Might be attaching the cable from the wrong side.

Just reinstalled this yesterday in my 66 vert. I put the cable on the vent when it was on the bench so I could get it adjusted correctly. I then installed the vent first and then mounted the bracket/pull where you have it. It is definitely not butter smooth to operate but it does work.
