Topic: Driving w/ Mud Flaps

I've been thinking about buying some mud flap / guards for my 68. Does anybody else think they take away from the look of the car? I would take them off every chance I got. Do they really help that much keeping the rocker panel molding nice and the quarter panel?

My Mustangs are driven more than most, and for several years a set of protective "mud flaps" have given protection from stones and various road trash.  I purchased the set from NPD that simply push on the edge of the fenders in the front and the edge of the quarter panels in the rear, no tools required.  They are great and I would not be without them.  There are no clips to fool with and have never put a mark on any car on which they were used.  They go on the off in seconds and are easy to store.  Works for me!

Charles, are you talking about the wild chrome looking ones

Not sure, would have to dig them out.  Seems like I remember there being a stainless section on black rubber.

I've got a NOS set also - about half stainless steel the other half rubber.

 I use mud flaps on both of my cars any time I leave the house with them. I have driven them many miles and to alot of car shows. I do not have one single scratch or rock peck on either car from driving them all these years. The flaps also will protect your car from truck grease that falls on the highway and road tar as well. I use aftermarket flaps and trim to fit and spring clips to hold in place. I do like what murf describes from npd though. You might chech them out if they are still available. Bill.

Bill, I just bought some this morning from National Parts Depot. I'm going to use them whenever I drive also. Your car still looks great, I hope I can keep mine looking that nice.

I've been running the same type Murf has. Been using them for 2 seasons now, including some long road trips. They work great and are easy on and off.

I have plastic mud flaps on my 68 Sprint B that I've just taken off.  They are in the way when I tie down the rear end of my car to a trailer using lasso straps around the wheels. I didn't like using the rear axle because of the brake lines being in the way.

I found this old post  and it appears there were some Ford NOS mud flaps around at one time.  Did a 68 ever offer that as an option or was it a dealer option that could be appropriate to my car? Or is it completely inappropriate for a car trying to be a driven nearly original car?

Would have been a dealer installed option. You could purchase the car "with the accessory" but it would be installed once the car got to the dealership -  no time to deal with these on the line, or could be purchased after delivery of the car. Have seen them as NOS loose kits over the years ( had a set at one time) but never saw someone that choose to installed them They were pretty large with a stainless lower 'half" over the rubber for extra weight and to dress each of them up a bit I guess.

Would guess that Bob will have a scan of a picture from the accessory catalog he could post I didn't keep a picture of the ones I had

NPD has a nice set that slips on the fender edges. I used them on our 68 driven concours fastback. They slip off quickly once you are at the show.
