1965 K Harmonic Dampener
« on: February 18, 2023, 07:29:12 PM »
I'm cleaning the Harmonic Dampener for my Nov 7., 1964 engine build date, K Mustang.  The pulley and bolts were painted.  The dampener, C50E-6316-A appears never to have been painted.  What is the corrent finish?

My observations have been that an original harmonic balancer was suppose to be painted semi-gloss black so that it would not rust and obscure the markings for timing purposes. The "neck" or surface where the seal would ride was left unpainted as was the inside hole and spline so that paint did not interfere with the installation of the balancer. Also on a few examples the very center of the front face didn't get allot of paint for the same reason.
The pulleys would be painted semi-gloss black with a light or just overspray around the crank hole and unpainted retaining bolts. Just like non- K code small blocks

I have seen some that appeared to be a black oxide or black chromate but typically they are painted semi gloss black.
