Outer shock tower plates, color in and out
« on: June 07, 2013, 06:11:34 AM »
Well, the assembly manual might have missed this.  The way I read it, there is no spray sealer on the outer shock tower plates.  OK, and the plates I've seen on some cars are painted to the glossy side of black.  More glossy that what is allowed on the engine side of the inner fender panels.
But, do I leave the plates in primer (red oxide) in the inside of these plates, or, is that black also?  You'd think I should know this.
Seems the spray sealer/coating stops at the rear side of the plates.  Is that correct?
Sept 1966 built 67' fastback.  San Jose build.  I don't see how it would matter if it was a Shelby on this

Not sure which piece you are asking about... the bolted on spring cover plates?

Those were zinc plated and then dipped in black paint, no primer used.

Not sure if the assembly manual is a good resource with this detail - lots not like the factory look on the page with the inner fender details :(

+1 On heavy black paint this year and plant - other one can be a different answer

Not really "stops" but the application (passes with the wand) at San Jose typically missed the spring cover. If you using the assembly manual for the sound deadener application -STOP- don't do it. Have already deducted for that pattern a number of times at shows.  ;)
