late '65 K code
« on: February 14, 2014, 12:58:34 PM »
my late '65 K code  with a single speed wiper switch is missing  ALL the windshield washer gear, no motor, hoses, nozzles, etc.

I'm thinking this equipment should be on all '65's, and was never an "option". Right ?

From Klaus' early mustang web site, "the 2-speed electric wipers and washers" were a $36.60 option.

My March 1965 built K Code from Metuchen does NOT have the washer setup. The washer setup was an option, which is what I take your question to be. Check all the hole provisions where this hardware would have been mounted and see if there are self-tapping thread marks. If there is nothing, then your Kar more than likely did not have the washer setup. Also, where the nozzles go through the cowl area there should be a piece of strip caulk covering the holes on NON-washer cars.

Since thr washer was something that was often dealer installed or factory you will find some variation as to where it was mounted and two different sized bags and mounting brackets.

Lots of 65's were not equipped with the washers

Thanks for the information. So to recap,  my car having a single speed wiper has no correlation to the absence of the windshield washer.

Windshield washers were optional for '65.  Later in the year they were part of the visibility group.

My car has the switch to motor wire harness, C5ZB-17B587-B thanks Jim, but none of the engine compartment parts.  No washer bag, bracket, pump, pump harness or nozzles.  The question is; did the main gauge/dash harness contain the single speed windshield washer harness regardless if the option was ordered or not ?  Thanks,  Brian

Washers were an option, I believe, until 1966 when it was a standard feature.  The washer wiring is actually separate from the single speed wiper harness, but the two-speed wiper harness contains the power line going to the washer (through the firewall).  This is true through all of 1966.

The 64.5 wiper harnesses were integral to the main underdash harness, and again from 1967 onwards.
